[00:00:09] What's up Potty people and welcome back to Clipped.

[00:00:22] As always, I'm Eric, your host.

[00:00:24] Clipped brings you the tools, resources, and people to make you a better podcaster.

[00:00:29] This week in particular is a part two on last week's episode.

[00:00:34] Before you go any further, if you didn't listen to or watch last week's episode,

[00:00:37] I highly recommend checking that out.

[00:00:39] I did a review of a service called Mopod, M-O-W-P-O-D.

[00:00:44] And what Mopod is, it's an online podcast marketing agency.

[00:00:48] And so with Mopod, you can pay to boost specific episodes to get more downloads,

[00:00:53] to reach more people.

[00:00:54] And it's all episode based, not the podcast as a whole.

[00:00:58] They have a self serve feature for indie podcasters.

[00:01:01] And within that, you essentially buy downloads.

[00:01:04] I tried that out and I bought some downloads.

[00:01:06] And this is the part two where I'm going to tell you about my experience,

[00:01:09] how much I paid and the results that I got.

[00:01:12] Just want to give a shout out to Riverside.

[00:01:14] That's riverside.fm.

[00:01:16] And in my opinion, it's the best place to record remote video

[00:01:20] and audio podcasts online.

[00:01:22] You can get 4K video, high fidelity audio.

[00:01:25] You can also get access to all their magic tools, magic clips, magic edit

[00:01:30] and a slew of other features to make your podcast production easier.

[00:01:34] Smoother and better.

[00:01:35] So first time listeners head over to riverside.fm

[00:01:38] and enter promo code CLIP for 20% off.

[00:01:41] So last week I boosted an episode that I released on May 15th, 2024.

[00:01:46] And that episode is titled How to use SEO to rank higher

[00:01:49] in Apple podcast search rankings.

[00:01:51] And so let's check out the campaign.

[00:01:53] OK, so you're going to go to boost.mopod.com

[00:01:57] and then you're going to click on campaigns.

[00:01:59] And when you do that,

[00:02:01] the campaign that you currently paid for is going to pop up, as you can see here.

[00:02:06] It's currently ended.

[00:02:07] And that's one interesting thing.

[00:02:09] When I purchased this campaign last week,

[00:02:12] I didn't know like how long it takes, like the duration of the campaign.

[00:02:16] Yes, you pay for specific downloads and you could see here

[00:02:19] I ended up paying $100 and for that, I got 111 downloads.

[00:02:25] But I didn't know if that was going to take like a few weeks

[00:02:28] or a day or a couple of days or longer.

[00:02:30] And maybe that information is available somewhere on the site,

[00:02:33] but I couldn't find it.

[00:02:35] But in any case, it happened really fast.

[00:02:36] I think it was 48 hours or two, two days, two and a half days,

[00:02:39] something like that.

[00:02:40] And the campaign ended.

[00:02:43] And let me show you the results now.

[00:02:44] So you could see here, I guess it breaks down by states, top 10 states.

[00:02:47] And I haven't really gotten into this.

[00:02:49] I took a glance at it.

[00:02:51] And then I took a glance at the downloads in my hosting platform,

[00:02:54] which is Libsyn.

[00:02:55] But this in real time is like the first time

[00:02:58] I've actually kind of dug into this stuff.

[00:03:00] I'm not like too analytical just to kind of give you the insights

[00:03:03] to like what it looks like.

[00:03:04] Top 10 states.

[00:03:05] So California and Pennsylvania looks like those were the winners there.

[00:03:09] So $100 got me 6,370 impressions, 207 plays

[00:03:16] and 172 IAB downloads.

[00:03:20] IAB is just like the way the podcast industry certifies downloads

[00:03:25] so that you know it's like a legit download.

[00:03:28] I don't know what the system is, but everyone, all the big players use that.

[00:03:31] And that's kind of like the industry standard.

[00:03:35] OK, so top devices, it looks like it was a mobile and tablet.

[00:03:39] I think mobile makes sense.

[00:03:40] Tablet, I don't really listen to podcasts on a tablet.

[00:03:43] I would think mobile and then desktop, like people at work on their computer.

[00:03:48] But I don't care where people listen.

[00:03:49] If they listened, they listened.

[00:03:52] OK, so here you can see on the left, the total.

[00:03:57] Yeah, so you could see here it was two days, May 21st and May 22nd.

[00:04:01] You could see it's broken down on each day by impressions plays play rate.

[00:04:06] Looks like most of the downloads happened the first day, the 21st play rate.

[00:04:10] I don't know what that is.

[00:04:12] I guess that would be.

[00:04:15] Of the impressions, the people that actually like played the episode,

[00:04:20] so there's some data on that there.

[00:04:23] This is the episode and the actual what the ad looks like.

[00:04:26] I mentioned what the ad looks like.

[00:04:27] I mentioned they were banner ads, which looks clean.

[00:04:29] I like how it looks.

[00:04:32] Listen now. So call the action super obvious.

[00:04:35] People see this. They want to click on it and listen.

[00:04:37] But yeah, that's it.

[00:04:38] And I did get the downloads I paid for, which is great.

[00:04:43] But now I'm wondering, like, what do I do with that?

[00:04:47] And this was all just kind of like experimental.

[00:04:50] So you could see here how to use SEO to rank higher in Apple Podcast Search rankings.

[00:04:56] This is in my podcast host. This is Libsyn.

[00:04:59] Obviously, that episode like crushed it compared to other episodes.

[00:05:02] I mean, I had a good experience with it and I got the downloads that I paid for.

[00:05:06] And I guess maybe I'm just not as marketing savvy as I think I am.

[00:05:10] But I'm also now like, what do I do with those downloads?

[00:05:13] Like, that's cool.

[00:05:15] You know, I got those. Are those people sticking around?

[00:05:20] We'll have to see. Like, if I got any followers for that,

[00:05:22] I'll have to go into my Apple Podcast Connect,

[00:05:24] which wouldn't be updated by now with that information.

[00:05:27] But yeah, it's cool to get more downloads.

[00:05:29] But I guess what I really want is like followers of the show

[00:05:33] or a.k.a. subscribers, depending on what you call it, on what platform you're on.

[00:05:37] So that like, you know, it's like continual growth.

[00:05:42] And those people listened, they got locked in, they liked it,

[00:05:45] and now they're going to keep listening.

[00:05:47] Don't know that there's any way to determine that at this moment.

[00:05:50] This is only a week after I bought the campaign and I only spent one hundred dollars.

[00:05:55] So obviously, that's that's nothing in the world of marketing.

[00:06:00] But I just wanted to show you kind of what Mopod is, how it works.

[00:06:03] And if you get that download boost for an episode, like,

[00:06:05] what would you do with it?

[00:06:06] I think most podcasters are looking for like more retention

[00:06:09] in a way to actually get followers

[00:06:13] and people into your world and your ecosystem.

[00:06:15] And that actually like love what you're doing and putting out.

[00:06:18] And they follow and they interact.

[00:06:19] And I realize that takes time.

[00:06:21] And that isn't that doesn't come easy.

[00:06:23] That's a grind. That's a hustle.

[00:06:25] That's consistency. That's putting out good content.

[00:06:27] And I don't know that any marketing agency

[00:06:30] can really do that for you.

[00:06:32] I feel like when it comes to growth, it's all about podcast swaps,

[00:06:35] promo drops.

[00:06:37] But all this to say that it does work.

[00:06:38] You are going to get the downloads that you paid for.

[00:06:40] I wish there was a little bit more info on where they came

[00:06:43] and not even so much where the downloads came from, but where

[00:06:46] they place that advertisement.

[00:06:50] It's the person I talked to on LinkedIn.

[00:06:52] It says it's across websites, which is interesting, though,

[00:06:54] because people that are on the web going to different websites,

[00:06:58] I don't know that they're necessarily podcast listeners.

[00:07:02] At that moment, they're consuming like a website.

[00:07:04] I don't know that they're interested in that moment

[00:07:06] to consume a podcast.

[00:07:07] That's a whole different platform.

[00:07:09] I know I'm like overcast.

[00:07:11] They have banner ads that pop up when people are like listening to similar

[00:07:15] episodes or episodes like that are in the same vein as yours

[00:07:18] or shows that are in the same vein as yours.

[00:07:21] The banner ad kind of looks similar to that will pop up.

[00:07:24] So I don't know. I got what I paid for.

[00:07:25] I got those downloads and that was cool.

[00:07:27] It felt good. It boosted it.

[00:07:30] But yeah, that's all I got for you.

[00:07:31] Boost those downloads and then maybe you know more about

[00:07:33] what to do with that than I do.

[00:07:36] Or maybe you don't.

[00:07:37] But in any case, if you have any questions about Mopod

[00:07:41] or podcast marketing in general, would love to chat,

[00:07:44] slide into my DMs at the podcast haven on Instagram or hit me up on LinkedIn,

[00:07:50] which is actually just my name, Eric Montgomery.

[00:07:52] There I post about podcasting tools, resources and people.

[00:07:56] So until next time, guys, keep listening, keep engaging, keep creating.

[00:08:00] I'm out.
