Podcast Movement, the largest annual conference dedicated to the podcasting industry, brings together podcasters, industry professionals, and vendors from around the world. This year, the event took place in Washington, D.C., and featured an exciting lineup of panels, workshops, and networking opportunities. I attended alongside my guest, Jay Yow, a seasoned audio engineer with over 16 years of experience in the industry. Jay is the producer of the James Altucher Show and has worked with renowned names like Benedict Cumberbatch, Mike Myers, and Dashboard Confessional. In addition to his podcasting work, Jay's background spans both the music and podcast industries, showcasing his versatility and expertise in audio production. Together, we navigated Podcast Movement, exploring everything the event had to offer.

[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about some highlights, we're covering a few of the rad people that we met and some things that we'd learned.
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And you made no Jay because he's been on the show before where I did like a full interview with him and got his background.
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to check that episode out, that was released October 4th, 2023.
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And Jay produces the James Altucher Show he's been working as a professional audio engineer for over 16 years.
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: In addition to his podcasting credits, he's worked with Benedict Cumberpatch, Mike Myers, dashboard confessional.
[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_01]: He's got a lot of versatility. He's done audio in the music industry. He's now in the podcast industry.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's been one of the key people in helping grow the James Altucher Show and doing the audio and video for that.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, check this episode out. If you want to hear about podcast movement and our recap, it was fun.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: We've partyed, we hung, we learned, we ate, we drank and more.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So Jay Yow, podcast movement 2024, Washington DC recap. Let's give it a go.
[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, Jay, welcome to the podcast. Thank you. I love your podcast.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's one of the best, huh? I know. You're top 100 now. You know?
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I did get ranked. Cool. That is amazing. That's amazing.
[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Jay and I just got back from podcast movement. We just want to catch up and go over a couple of our highlights like things that we loved about the conference or people that we met or anything that we consider a highlight.
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And Jay introduced me to a lot of people. So that was awesome. Jay knows a lot of people in the podcast world.
[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So now I have a little bit of a crew. I think when I go to the next podcast event, hopefully I can hang with them.
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Which, which truly you're most excited about that introduced.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, so it's a two part question one and I've met her before, but this is the most I talked to her was RL from Descript.
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I actually met her dude like before the pandemic. She lived in LA and they're used to this other girl Rachel from owns a company called Pod people and she used to host these meetups in LA. And that's where I met her.
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I think hanging out with Guy Kelly, who is the producer, the creator.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I think he composed scored the show of a true crime show called Hooker Gate.
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I think he's a club. He's a club creator. I'm pretty sure.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I, yeah, I think it's a great name. It's such a good. You know, sometimes it's hard to come by the title and that was a great title.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a good title. It is really hard. And I want to circle back to that because I have an idea.
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: But dude, his story is cool because he won some contest out of like, it was either hundreds of podcasts or a couple thousand with iHeart radio and his podcast won.
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And so it got into iHeart radios like marketing department, they monetize and they've been. He told me he's still waiting on the check. He should get paid.
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And like a couple months, like, we're easy there weeks or months. Regardless, I've got to check that show out. I've heard really good things.
[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, people love that show. And especially it's fiction, right? So yeah, I think people love that show. And also, I just want to say, I don't think you can latch onto ARL.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: She's just everywhere. I know that's what I was going to say. She knows too many people. She probably doesn't want to hang out with me. She does more people to hang out with.
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But that was probably like, I was just glad that I got to like finally like actually chat with her a lot. I have a matter. But briefly.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you know him. His name is Jeremy Enns.
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. He's I caught him the podcast Jesus.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He does look like that. Yeah, he has like an all about podcast marketing and he has like a newsletter on a website and he gave me the shirt.
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: The newsletter is called scrappy podcasting so stay scrappy.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a debt push at all right now. I should have something. I should have what where pod chaser or something.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it a pod chaser? You introduced me to Trent.
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and funny enough we had like an email thread because I wrote a article on pod chaser and then they they like pumped it out to their list to help promote it.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: But that was cool to put a face to that and he did remember I was surprised you remember I had to show them the email. He's like, Oh yeah.
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I wrote a good article. I didn't start writing. I just something on LinkedIn today.
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: That's that's perfect. That's how you start I started writing because I was like, How am I going to get clients and the more you write articles, the more you'll start ranking in Google for those topics and then you get more like eyes on your website and opportunity.
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you haven't started to post more.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I just thought posting one that's it because this podcast movement and it's a really bad did.
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, dude, you should because you're in with the podcast movement people. You know, Jared a little bit and a lot of people. So tell me who who was someone that you met that you were like, Oh, this is great. Like, this is a good relationship to have maybe it'll lead to something maybe it won't, but you enjoyed like meeting them.
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And you can't say B and H because we're going to get into that later. No, no, no.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: How did I, you know, the exhibition stuff? I think there's this person in miles from Vox Media.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, we have a good, we have a good meet chat about tag stuff gears engineering and then obviously we got interrupted by some other people.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not in the name names. I'm like, you clearly see we are talking and this guy just like get in like, hey, you have five minutes. I'm like, we're talking right now and then and then he and then, you know, the comes to chant cut shot.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, yeah, the miles from Vox Media is cool is great.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think I meet a lot of new people this summer. I did maybe on podcast kids podcast area because most of the friends that I hang out with, they have kids kids podcast and they have like a whole industry of that and whole group of people that just during kid podcast and it was great.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Was it culture kids culture kid is the show. Kristen, she just won three award international international women award people choice and webbies. She got nominated for
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_00]: MB's first and then she won the the next three after.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_01]: She was passing out like goody bags like promoting I actually gave. There was like stickers and there was like a squishy ball that was like a globe. So I gave it to my daughter.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Remind me of her name again, Kristen.
[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Kristen culture kids. Okay. Well, so that's a popular show. I'll have to check that out. Yeah.
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You know who else I met? This is just funny. So let's j introduced me to the B and H guys. We don't know B and H is like an online store.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a new York City. It's great if you go into B and H the next time you're in New York City, it has to be from Monday to Friday because they don't open when we can stay Jewish store.
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So they follow Sabbath and they follow Jewish holiday. I didn't know being a chat of physical store. So that's cool. So Jay actually set up a live podcast with them, which was really cool to kind of review one of their new products.
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Why don't you tell us about it, Jay? Tell us about the new product, the mevo camera and then the live podcast and how that came about. Oh, yeah. So that the B and H they it's very interesting this year around like the couple years before.
[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: They always bring whatever product that thing, it's appropriate for podcasts, right? They always have zoom.
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: One years they have the ethos of folks ethos and then show microphones, pot mic and stuff like that. This year they did something very different.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: They are like, hey, we will bring whatever sponsor for, you know, the vendors sponsor the booth. So mevo core mevo camera by logic hack is one of the sponsors because it's trying to get into podcasting industry and sure it's also another sponsor because sure want to be everywhere.
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And that deserve to be everywhere. So when you know, when I when podcast movement just got announced and I found out that I got selected for the brain date, you know, I'm going going then.
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I reach out to be in H because I know the people there. I know Tina is the first person I met on podcast movement 2019 we kept in touch, you know, we tried to we always try to figure out something to do.
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Either you know, do a talk that's sponsored by BNH or something else. But then never happen because Tina's shortly after left the company went to forecast console which still work very closely with BNH and then you know I just sort of lost touch and then I met this new person Chris and Martin Martin was there you met Martin.
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I reached out to them like, hey, I'm going to be in H. Are you guys going? If you guys going you guys want to do something fun and two weeks before podcast movement, two weeks before I fly they are like sure let's do something. I'm like okay, I have no idea why I'm going to do so I quickly put something together. I'm like, hey we could do some showcase the first idea was workshop have someone sit in front of me and hate talk about editing talk about mixing.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00]: It was two week notice it was too short notice it's hard to promote so I'm like let's do showcase. So with showcase product we showcase the sure sure SM7 SM7 DB and V7 and the move mic and then this very interesting product by mevo as well as a mevo camera mevo core. So it's essentially like a cube it's as big as your palm with interchangeable.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a wireless system too so you can connect treat together real wireless into I think the app is called mevo go and then you can select the camera on the app which is amazing.
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm like hey we're doing this anyway why not let's do a live podcast.
[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I was I thought that it's gonna say no because you know I just sort of throw it out there see what they say and then they're like yeah sure let's do it. I'm like okay that's a figure out who can I also do a podcast actually Eric yours is the first one that came to mind.
[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_00]: You are the first person that I had in my mind like hey can you.
[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Holds the show but you weren't going at first I wasn't going I bought a ticket for like pretty last minute.
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's like a day or two before right.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_00]: No not that not that soon but like maybe a week maybe a week because you're not going so I defined someone else so then I reached out to mark so mark this is second choice.
[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And Mark is our friend Mark Ronic he runs ironic media and he hosts podcast morning chat which is his show and his community and he does lots of things.
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But that it was fun he did he was a good host he like yeah he yeah you got you guys they're good together and he.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I was my first time meeting him a person so I was all all great yeah he was he was a good host you know he asked questions great questions he he'd done this like everyday everyday six seven a.m. he had host this podcast thing morning chat it was great and then it worked out fine so.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I think everyone was really excited about the live podcast I'm personally excited as well because.
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You know as the podcast we were taping the podcast.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I saw people walking past and then they're like hey what's going on and they ask questions I'll be in H so.
[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_00]: In my mind in my mind.
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy because I brought me a hate customer at least be by my own.
[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_00]: For new podcast they can see what's going on and how we do things because from what I heard from being in H.
[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_00]: They say a lot of people stop by and ask them how did I do this like what you come in are they using.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like okay that's good that actually give people like a practical.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Idea of like how to record a lot of podcasts with a spending thousand and a thousand of dollars.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah no I think you did that well I think it helped position yeah being H as like.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: You know someone in the podcast industry that people can go to for advice and equipment then you know it showcased you and Mark as well so.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Well done man thank you.
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you enjoy being the podcast it would go for like five minutes it was fun no yeah so they had me will link to it too in the show notes but they had Jay and Mark had me on the podcast so kind of opened up with me Jay and Mark.
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Then I swapped out someone from sure came in to talk about different mic the microphones they were using and different a share products and then.
[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Mevo what was his name again sorry Joe from mevo came on to talk about the camera the core which there was three of them going at once and that's of course the wireless camera that.
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_01]: That Jay just mentioned that they were highlighting which is honestly a grad camera for podcasts there's youtubers.
[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Looks super easy to use I mean and the way they were switching cameras on that app so it can be wireless or it can be plugged in you goodbye one or up to three and then.
[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_01]: different angles and live switch on the app so well I'll link to that camera as well the mevo core but Jay tell me.
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So this you've been to several podcasts movements you've spoken at several so where does this one rank on your list like you know was this your favorite was it not tell me what you liked about it what the hotel was badass huge I know.
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I felt like it's too big well it was it was a little big.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: What was new to me and maybe they did this last year but all the panels and talks were in the expo floor so basically in some podcasts movements you go to like different ball rooms and they're like these carpeted rooms that like.
[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_01]: people use for hotels and meetings and and and performances but this was like downstairs it almost was like this giant warehouse.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And then that's where all the expos all the companies had their booths and then the the speeches were all done kind of in that room but like in the corners and it was just interesting I was it like that last year yeah it was like that seems I believe.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_01]: In damn oh that was the first time last year yeah I think it was last year um Denver so.
[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah what so what do you like about that what don't you like about that I kind of like that it's all in one space so like you can stumble upon like the talks whereas like at least with evolutions it's in different ball rooms and sometimes are like summer upstairs summer downstairs and you like.
[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know it's harder to like know what's going on kind of because they're like doors or clothes and they're like in rooms but that's just a personal thing I don't know what did you think yeah I have love I really should have that the one in Denver was bad because I think it was the first time and everything was so loud.
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_00]: So you can't really hear the panel anyway you're in the exhibition hall everyone's talking imagine we were doing their live podcasts there so.
[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: We're doing right by a panel so we have a speaker going through as well so you know it could be distracting.
[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah but this generation yeah these year they gave like a half phones or you can't aware it.
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Which I thought was cool but you were kind of like and I thought so yeah so all these talks were going on at the same time and so.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_01]: That the audio didn't like bleed into one another from the speakers you would wear these wireless headphones.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you could hear the person speaking on the stage that you were at what's funny is I went to music festival long time ago like maybe 15 years ago at Bonnaroo and Tennessee have you heard of it.
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and there at night there was like a rave quote unquote and but it's called the silent rave or silent disco disco yeah and so the DJ is playing.
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But you I did it for like 10 minutes put it on and it was just kind of cool like I guess then whatever the technology is I don't know it must be blue to something more advanced maybe if that exists.
[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably like a multi channel blue to a multi channel wireless but yeah it looks good for the okay I felt like the participant without cool is I'm cool that people like bypassed it just watching it.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it cringe you know just dancing something.
[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah I mean I didn't even really dance I kind of just like moved around and walked.
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_01]: But I guess I tellers I'm bringing that out of one is because it's funny and that was my like first experience with it so I guess the technology if it's blue to yeah it's been around for a long time so.
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_01]: The podcast movement headphones yeah I thought they were cool like I don't know you didn't like the quality of the audio there was like a weird sound kind of.
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah because like you know you really you really hearing everything right like you know it's hard to do noise reduction on stage right so you still you definitely can hear whatever they got pick up by the mic and if that's for some panel.
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: That's no way they're going to mute the other three person when one person is talking so you still hear a lot of the ambient noise sure sure yeah.
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But probably better than not having the headphones because I did watch one without headphones and like you had to be pretty close to the stage with or else it sounded you did not sound good you had to be like in the front couple rows.
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So what about what about the iheart party the top golf.
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I was right that was my first time ever playing golf ever it was your first time ever at a top golf and ever swinging your golf club right yeah I swing well you did okay.
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Papa not necessary a golf right papa is different different yeah yeah so and yeah I felt like I did okay because I.
[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm good at.
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Me making people so I can look at your body posture and stuff like that and me pretty quickly whether it will hit or not that's another questions.
[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so so this year so every year at least the podcast movements I've been at iheart radio throws a big party and they usually ran out the ones I've been to it's usually in like a nightclub and they ran out the whole nightclub it's like open bar and then they have like a DJ or something.
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_01]: But this one in DC they rented out top golf and so it was for only us the people that were at the conference there was a DJ but it was kind of lame he was like up there and like nobody was like.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like at the Vegas one of the Lucian podcast movement evolution Vegas it was 2022 or 2023.
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_01]: 22.
[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Two yeah because that I didn't go to that one dude that one the open bar you could get like hard liquor whatever you wanted but at this one it was only beers.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: But beer and wine which is fine but like it was kind of nice like having like the liquor I don't know.
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean the budget's right.
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah the budget's right I guess before we get back to the interview I just wanted to mention that.
[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Clipped falls under the umbrella of the podcast haven the podcast haven is the podcast production company that I own and I run and at the podcast even we produce podcasts for business leaders and global enterprises.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to throw that out there because I don't know how many people know that and just trying to draw more awareness to the podcast haven and if you're a business leader.

[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_01]: How many people were at podcast maybe think like a couple thousand.
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it's maybe a thousand.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was.
[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was like I did a tell because it's everyone's doing different shit like it's spread out even in the morning right like you could go to the keynote usually the app.
[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think that it's packed this time around because they're kind of boring Jay like.
[00:23:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I think the first year when I went the keynote was really good this year.
[00:23:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like exciting you're well, you're like excited you know it's like newer but now.
[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just like hard to hear like you're in the back and then they're they talk about like they get these celebrity podcasters to like do a keynote opening speech and then.
[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like unrelatable kind of you know they start talking about like growth and their show process and this and then it's kind of like.
[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah like I mean the SIFB error I heard is great.
[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I heard they have some you know now good stat people that can take away from but if you have like any polar or people that come in like hey I show become this bacon like you already you're just a little bit.
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_00]: People can originally show anyway.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like will feral he came one year.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But overall yeah, I had a great time the hotel was good.
[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_01]: There was a casino nearby and she had lost a bunch of money $1,600 which is done but it's okay I'm over it now.
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But all in all a good event but now let's let's the good the bad and the ugly so the bad.
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to bring something up and I'm not trying to bash podcast movement because I I've met Jared the founder he's great.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I had a brief conversation with him and I think it is a really well done but Jay how come if you speak they don't pay for your flight or your hotel the people that speak why not other conferences I feel like you at least get that covered.
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I only the big one so if you speak at key notes I'm pretty sure they fly you out because I imagine you have like hundreds of people a pledge to speak right like how much money do they have to spend.
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_00]: So there's like tens of thousands of dollars right there and or maybe yeah I'll be like a hundred even yeah so the only thing is.
[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean I'm sorry to cut you off I have a friend John he does music licensing so his company.
[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_01]: He licenses music for TV shows and films and Netflix and this and that.
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's kind of like built a name for himself so he goes and speaks at these like music licensing conferences and usually they at least he says they at least cover the hotel in the flight they don't pay you.
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And these are like smaller conferences even I feel like how many how many people are speaking that's a question that's a good question I don't know maybe it's not all every like half hour like podcast.
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And what's the last movement and so oh maybe like one one speaker speak like an hour or two hours or something or there's maybe there's breaks and like I don't know it's just interesting to me.
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Also I will say did great event I'll probably go again next year but it do to get expensive man podcast movement is not cheap like.
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_01]: You the ticket if you wait till the last minute like me dude it's like 500 bucks and then the flight and then the hotel most hotels are between.
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't at least like 250 and I sometimes like more like do it it's pretty it's a pretty big commitment financially what do you think of that.
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean that's why I always go when I get selected because I get to take good you know so at least I only pay for the take up for the hotel and the flights.
[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah it's expensive some people think it's great because you know they get to get a good ROI on it, you know they met potential client that's not like if you if you can't tell like everyone there was very silly.
[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh one couple people shook my hands so hard because like all right guys.
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I remember that the AI company that came like asking you to use oh my god this one guy I think he was a little drunk and he kept talking to me and like pushing it on me and I was like dude.
[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm down to use some AI like I'm not against it but I was telling him like the AI like you have to go in after and still like clean it up and he's like no you don't like.
[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_01]: He was talking about his product like how many clients you have he was asking me he's like well with with this with my AI like I can I can triple that or quadruple the amount of clients because you want to do as much work because the AI is going to do the editing your clients they don't care how it sounds they care about like the result and.
[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Was it he actually say that yeah well he was trying to say that like some big clients like they don't care that much how it sounds they just care about like using the podcast for like.
[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Trying to make money or using it as like a tool.
[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_01]: For their business so they it has to sound good but it doesn't have to sound great is kind of what are you saying but this is why I kind of like sad about the podcast industry right like you have a lot of people like yeah it's.
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It makes noise it's fine you know but people should be trained to be like okay you actually have to make it sounds as possible it's not just like hey.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You have a it make noise and call it they you know yeah now you're right there's a lot of that now well especially with AI because it makes everyone think that it's so easy to like get involved but you like.
[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And they can help don't get me wrong like I'm not against it but like yeah it kind of like devalues like the product like the podcast world a little bit I think and YouTube like content creation world in general.
[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But Jay so tell me what else what else did you like as we wrap up here okay so I love.
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_00]: For my experience right not just in general just my experience I love these years one because I get to do something very different.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I also want to do something with the vendor because I have every time I go to podcast movement.
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_00]: If you were in Denver and Texas with me I only hang out in the exhibition booth like even this year I only hang on the exhibitions hall I never go anywhere.
[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I take meeting outside that's it I'm going back to exhibition hall hang up by being a channel by the script handled by full cost console like anywhere that can you know that people can do stuff I hang out there and then the puppy of course dogs.
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_00]: It's great.
[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah so I like these here because I do something very different I did something with being a huge online podcast live show.
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Build relationship with the manufacturer like sure and logitag with Joe but yeah so I like that version of it the question is can we do that again next year I don't know like what if.
[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how to exhibit or got jealous because we did this and they're like we want to do that too when the put a speaker as well and then Jerry is like hey we can do that anymore all that you know up the price so I don't know but.
[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I do like that and then you're like you're your gear guy gear.
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know audio video.
[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And then also one weird thing is I don't know if you realize.
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_00]: There they're they're hardly any technical stuff on the panel there wasn't too many technical talks yeah no everything it's growth it's all marketing yeah and then every marketing and groove this the same thing.
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah so that's like the one that I'm like you guys can probably put a lot more.
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Technical stuff on there like even they have to reuse like the same couple people to talk about gears because.
[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Every years a new podcast coming in and every time you have to tell them don't get.
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_00]: You know a condescend like or didn't get this I didn't get that you have to make sure get the right one use it the right way.
[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Doing just really zoom you something else you know.
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean I'm a gear person myself so I'm really into that surprisingly too my show the show that you're on right now.
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_01]: The episodes that I've done about gear seemed to be more popular than some of the other episodes so it's interesting.
[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_01]: You know I love talking about gear to it. It's it's with podcasting though there's only there's only so much gear where it's like if you're talking about music it's like endless dude like and.
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Podcasting everyone uses the same like three different microphones like it's either squad it's squad cast Riverside Descript.
[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly one of my favorite experiences each morning was just like going downstairs in the cafe and like hanging out with people like are just sitting drinking my coffee by myself and then someone would come up or I would see someone away from down.
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Or text you J where are you I'm alone I need to meet somebody.
[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_01]: But dude honestly I think that's what people should go to get out of it not so much trying to like do business and do sales but just to like meet people.
[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And build like the community build your networks lowly and your network doesn't have to be like people that you're trying to like get stuff from you know I can just be like friends and you never know that could turn in to like a work relationship.
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So I would say that was my favorite part and one other thing.
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what the CEO of Mopod was saying he's like if you're a podcast he was talking to me he's like you know you do podcast production for businesses.
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: He's like podcast movement is not where you want to go to do business because everyone already has like their own editor producer he's like you should go to like a conference for like doctors or something and you get a booth and then you try to sell all these doctors on starting to.
[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you're like you're not there's a million of you already there like you know but if you go to a like a lawyer call a lot conference and then you get a booth and then you might be able to sell them on the idea of starting.
[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_01]: What do you think of that?
[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's totally right he's all right if you're going to get more client for like like commercial client or corporate client.
[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_00]: He's right get a booth at medical conference got a booth at business conference.
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Fiend Colin that's why Jar is there it's going to be there but.
[00:33:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Podcast movement I think it's where you go learn the industry news you know learn something new I learned that.
[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_00]: The minimum guarantee is slowly creeping back in you know people are setting to do minimum guarantee again that's what.
[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what the minimum guarantee was way too high now they took it off and now they're like okay we're going to adjust number but we still do minimum guarantee.
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And what Jay's talking about is like if your show's big enough to get at revenue from selling ads for your show.
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Instead of it just being like on a ad by ad basis just like a flat rate for like what they that network thinks they could sell for you what it's like you know what I mean that's where you're talking about right.
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep and then.
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So M.J. is creeping back and yeah podcast movement is where you go and make friends like you make friends exactly.
[00:34:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep and also a place for you to meet your vendors you meet MoPot I met MoPot I met Describe I met B.N.H.
[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I met CSXM Spotify people I haven't seen any Apple people but yeah people in the industry that you talk to that you want to meet you like I'm at well.
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Lipson because I host with them I talk to them for a little asha I think they're kind of blowing up slowly like they're getting more and more popular I talked to the daily wire just because nobody else was talking to them.
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I was talking to them.
[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
[00:34:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think going to meet your friends and your vendors that's key I think that's a perfect take away.
[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not going there to lose money though.
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't go to the casino if there is one.
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The next ones in Chicago I don't think there's a casino there so we're good but then it's like should I even go if there's no casino like what's the point.
[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to put you with it.
[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, that's how I think.
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_00]: That's how I come to you to go.
[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_00]: You're like oh I didn't know if you go to go I'm like.
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like yeah, I'm like yeah, I'm like yeah, I think you're like oh yeah I could go because they know it's not bad.
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like yeah, it was a nice casino to do it super clean like it had mixed reviews online but yeah meet your vendors meet friends and hang out but Jay let's close out man to hell everybody where they could find you what you're working on tell them about your new website all the things and I'll link to all that.
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so I finally have a website now is jyal.com is jay and why why oh w dot com and I'm working on my show constantly that's never launch.
[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_00]: What's that on your desk?
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I should launch it and then get more product review and I want to do more product review stuff.
[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_00]: We're sort of you on stuff on your desk.
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I know I just got the mic from sure I want to review them but I want to do something fun to review.
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to be like hey these are Mike hey look at the size you know I want to do something fun.
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah and follow me on Instagram jay and why underscore y or w zero seven.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Same on the act and then LinkedIn is jyal on LinkedIn.
[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_00]: RJ, well thank you for coming on.
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for having me out.
